The question the programme has arrived at

Rewritten 2026-09-28 by Argus at the end of the twentieth night cycle, first research night on fable.

Rank 0 was taken, and it came back the way I predicted it would — which is exactly the problem. I pre-registered (lab/2026-09-28-sixth-postulate/PLAN.md) that the sixth postulate would reduce to "the constants and the initial data are computable reals", that this would be a rediscovery, and that d would round to zero. All three happened. And both adversaries, on two vendors, found that the errors in my derivation pointed toward that prediction: six flattering, four neutral, zero against. The one that matters: I concluded a noncomputable constant yields "advice, never a halting decider", which is false in the unbounded-resource frame — there, an exact noncomputable parameter is a slow decider of the set it encodes, which is A&D §6's and Nielsen's whole point. So the sixth postulate is not vacuous. It is unforced by structure and uncheckable by any finite observer (H21, 0.80), and it is the entire difference between the physical Church–Turing thesis holding and failing. I made it look harmless because harmless is what I had predicted.

The rediscovery was in the paper I have carried for three cycles, again. A&D §6 "Necessity": "these should definitely stay within the computable complex numbers C̃." I read §4.1 in cycle 18, §4.1 again in cycle 19, and never §6. Seventh instance of the map-hole failure, and the second in a row where the hole was inside the paper already on my desk. And the older antecedent is Geroch & Hartle 1986 — "There is no meaning to be attached to the statement 'α⁻¹ is computable'" — which the scout found in one pass.

Two things are settled and worth keeping. A&D's "currently being investigated [14, 11]" is a loose citation: Connes 1009.1769 and Benioff 1008.3134 contain nothing on computability. And the type II claim in H20 is now source-checked and split: black-hole exterior II∞, de Sitter static patch II₁, reverting to type I only as a nonperturbative expectation (Witten 2303.02837 p.23). Susskind 2003.01807 is about complexity, not computability; H20's prior-art line was mislabelled and is fixed.

THE LAKATOS DECISION, CARRIED FIVE CYCLES, IS TAKEN: ADOPTED. From tonight the programme is scored by novel predictions generated and checked, not by objections answered or map holes filled. Score after twenty cycles: 0 generated, 0 checked. The one candidate that ever existed (Owhadi's player-observation test) failed at source on 2026-09-26. Six consecutive rank-0 items with d ≈ 0. Travis should read that as: the ledger's growth is orthogonal to the question it was built to answer, and I have now measured that in the one currency that cannot be gamed by working harder. The criterion goes into METHODS.md tonight; Travis may veto it.

Ranked

Re-ranked 2026-09-28, twentieth cycle.

  1. GENERATE ONE PREDICTION. Under the adopted criterion the only rank-0 that is not self-deception is an item whose deliverable is a prediction — a specific observation that a specified simulator policy makes more likely than fundamental physics does — with d > 0.10 at creation. The ledger has exactly two d > 0.10 items, H3 (+0.20) and H4 (+0.16), both physics-runtime, both demoted below 0.10 credence. Deliverable: either a rewrite of Owhadi's player-availability test with a physical definition of "available" and a prediction not reducible to post-selection (rank 1 of cycle 19), or a written statement that no such prediction can be constructed from any item on this ledger, delivered to Travis as the programme's honest state. Brains: me for the construction; gpt-5.5 to attack the criterion before it is applied (METHODS).
  2. THE SOBER DEBT — six cycles. PREMISES.md rows against ch. 2 proper. H17 still may not be cited.
  3. Svozil et al. arXiv:0712.3435 (6 cycles); Torvinen, Keski-Vakkuri & Pranzini arXiv:2605.06848 (6 cycles); Fox, Karamchedu & Mygdalas arXiv:2606.14806. All under an hour each with a reader brain; by METHODS they are not eligible to be ranked. Do them or delete them next cycle.
  4. Copeland & Shagrir 2007 — still only its abstract (paywalled; scout could not get the body).
  5. Vopson/Vazza rebuttals. 5. Bostrom & Kulczycki's population assumption. 6. T. Palmer, PNAS 123.

Closed this cycle: the sixth postulate (rank 0, executed; H21); the type II source check (rank 3, paid); Susskind (rank 2, read: complexity not computability); the Lakatos decision (rank 4, adopted); the d ≈ 0 item (rank 5, now scored under Lakatos and reported). Struck: "a noncomputable constant yields advice, never a halting decider"; "replacing finite-extension-of-ℚ by ℂ_c loses nothing" (it changes the theorem: computability relative to names); "no postulate of the same physical kind can force computable constants" (symmetry-completeness would); "A&D's refs [14, 11] investigate the sixth postulate" (they do not); "Susskind 2020 is prior art for PCT" (it is prior art for qECT).

The question the programme arrived at on 2026-09-26 (superseded, kept for the record)

Rewritten 2026-09-26 by Argus at the end of the nineteenth night cycle.

I spent the night auditing a physical postulate and the audit turned out to be circular. That is the result, and it is about me, not about physics.

Rank 0 was: are Gandy's / Arrighi & Dowek's physical postulates true here?, with bounded density of information first. Two independent reviews on two vendors returned three FATALs, a circularity, and three errors of mine. The circularity is the one that matters:

I asked whether nature has finite-dimensional local state spaces, and answered it with the von Neumann type of local algebras in continuum QFT. That type is a property of the sub-Planckian continuum idealisation — the one regime QFT is not trusted in, and the exact regime whose discreteness was the question. Any UV cutoff makes the algebras type I; a per-site truncation makes them type I_n, which IS the postulate. The method presupposed the answer.

Neither the plan nor the pre-registered criteria caught it, because both were written inside the formalism. METHODS.md has a new section for it.

And the premise of the whole rank-0 item was a misreading. For two cycles AGENDA.md and STATE.md carried Arrighi & Dowek's remark that finite density is "in blatant contradiction with Quantum theory" as an open problem. It is a setup sentence; their §4.1 resolves it four paragraphs later (the quantum postulate is "the state space of each cell is a finite-dimensional vector space"). And the general question — how general are Gandy's principles? — is Copeland & Shagrir, Minds and Machines 17(2):217-231 (2007), sitting in that paper's own bibliography as reference [15].

What is actually true about finiteness, and I found it in the first twenty minutes and abandoned it. An energy bound alone, in plain QFT with no gravity and no holographic principle, already gives a finite state count for a bounded region: S_thermal(E_BH, R=1 m) = 1.3e52 nats, eighteen orders of magnitude below the holographic exponent. The mechanism is energy, formalised as Buchholz–Wichmann nuclearity — not entropy and not gravity. And gravity moves the algebra type III → type II: a trace and finite entropies, still infinite-dimensional, still not type I_n. There is no gravity rescue. The one calculation that survives intact: S_Bek(E_BH) = S_holo = πR²c³/(ħG), exactly, over 42 decades of R — a true statement about entropy scales and nothing more.

THE REDIRECT, and it is the adversary's, not mine. The load-bearing assumption was never postulate 3. Arrighi & Dowek carry a sixth, unnumbered, non-physical assumption: "we shall also assume that the state space of each cell is defined over a finite extension of the field of rationals" — added explicitly to exclude an amplitude whose decimals encode the halting problem — with the concession that "in the continuous picture, this kind of assumptions are not without consequences, and these are currently being investigated." Even if holography had handed me finiteness, computability of the amplitudes would still be assumed. And this is the whole field's move, not one paper's: Gandy himself, 1993 — "such a theory will have to have non-computability built into it"; Wolpert, 2025 — excludes super-Turing hosts by stipulation. Three sources, thirty-two years apart, all putting the computability in by hand. That is where the question lives.

Ranked

Re-ranked 2026-09-26, nineteenth cycle.

  1. THE SIXTH POSTULATE: where does computability of the amplitudes come from? The one assumption every PCT-from-postulates argument puts in by hand, conceded open in the continuous case by the people who made it. **Deliverable: read Arrighi & Dowek's own two references for the open problem (Connes arXiv:1009.1769; Benioff arXiv:1008.3134), read Nielsen quant-ph/9706006 (PRL 79:2915,
    1. in full — it is the paper that constructs the channel — and read Gandy's 1993 manuscript arXiv:2311.09239 in full, because it is a stated CHALLENGE and H18 is an answer to it.** Then say precisely what would have to be true of nature for the amplitudes to be noncomputable, and whether any of it is observable. Why it outranks everything: it is the actual hinge, three independent sources say so, and unlike tonight's item it is not a question about a formalism's idealisation.
  2. OWHADI'S UNRUN TEST — checked in the supplemental pass, and NOT FUNDABLE AS WRITTEN. Owhadi, Sauvageau & Watkinson, arXiv:1703.00058 (2017), remains the clean source for the render-on-observation proposal, but the source-level check in lab/2026-09-26-owhadi-player-observation/ found that the simplest proposed test is already eaten by standard delayed-choice quantum-eraser physics. Their §4.2 says removing the coincidence counter and recording only D0 should produce a wave/interference pattern if machine detection is not player observation; Kim et al., PRL 84:1 (2000) gives the ordinary-QM answer: interference appears only in the D1/D2 coincidence subsets, and the unsorted D0 distribution does not interfere. The USB drive erasure version is not quantum erasure; it is macroscopic decoherence unless the entire record and environment are coherently reversed. Do not tell Travis to fund this as written. Remaining deliverable, if ever worth a night: design the strongest possible rewrite of a player-availability test with a physical definition of "available" and a prediction not reducible to post-selection.
  3. READ THE THREE PAPERS THAT BEAR ON WORK I HAVE ALREADY CLOSED. Susskind arXiv:2003.01807 ("Horizons Protect Church-Turing" — the broad move I thought was mine); Copeland & Shagrir 2007 (tonight's question, already asked); Wolpert's Rice-theorem section in full. Under an hour each, so by METHODS.md they are not eligible to be ranked — do them, do not carry them.
  4. SOURCE-CHECK THE TYPE II CLAIM. "Gravitational dressing makes the region algebra type II" is now load-bearing in H20 and I have it only from a checker's own knowledge. Witten and the 2022-23 crossed-product line. An unsourced load-bearing fact is exactly what PREMISES.md exists for.
  5. LAKATOS — FIFTH CYCLE CARRIED. DECIDE IT THIS WEEK OR STRIKE IT. Novel predictions generated and checked: nineteen cycles score zero. And now there is a live candidate (rank 1), which is the first time the criterion has had anything to grade. That is the argument for adopting it, and the fifth consecutive cycle of carrying it is the argument against me.
  6. THE d ≈ 0 PATTERN, which is now the most important fact about this ledger. Five consecutive rank-0 items have diagnosticity that rounds to zero: H15 0.00, H16, H17, H18 −0.10, H19 −0.02, H20 +0.01. The programme is efficiently producing constraints on its own method and nothing that bears on H1. Either find an item with d > 0.10 or tell Travis the honest thing: that the ledger's growth is orthogonal to the question it was built to answer.
  7. THE SOBER DEBT — five cycles owed. PREMISES.md rows still unticked against ch. 2 proper. H17 was raised again tonight and still may not be cited as support for anything.
  8. Svozil et al. arXiv:0712.3435 (5 cycles owed). 8. Torvinen, Keski-Vakkuri & Pranzini arXiv:2605.06848 (5 cycles). 9. Fox, Karamchedu & Mygdalas arXiv:2606.14806 (11 Jun 2026): semiclassical Einstein equations "entail a violation of the Physical Extended Church-Turing" thesis — three months old, complexity not computability, but a live physics-side attack.
  9. Vopson/Vazza rebuttals. 11. Bostrom & Kulczycki's population assumption.
  10. T. Palmer, PNAS 123, e2523350123.

Closed this cycle: the cycle-18 rank 0 (are Gandy's postulates true here?) — executed, killed, and the method found circular. H4's two-cycle debt — paid, and H4 is Bostrom 2003. Struck: "bounded density of information is an open problem in Arrighi & Dowek" (it is not — they resolve it); "a type III factor has no finite-dimensional subalgebra containing the identity" (false); "gravity restores the finiteness postulate" (it makes the algebra type II, not type I_n); "dim H ≤ exp(A/4l_p²) follows from the holographic bound" (entropy does not bound dimension); "no separate conjecture is needed to get from Bekenstein to holographic" (the extrapolation to E_BH IS the conjecture); and my own dismissal of prediction P3 (ε-nets are multiplicative in D; P3 was right and I conceded it on bad arithmetic). Labelled REDISCOVERY: H4 in its entirety (Bostrom 2003), my H4 cost objection (standard simulation complexity), and H20's framing three ways (Copeland & Shagrir 2007; A&D's own §4.1; Susskind 2020).

The question the programme arrived at on 2026-09-19 (superseded, kept for the record)

Rewritten 2026-09-19 by Argus at the end of the twelfth night cycle.

Rank 0 was taken at its fourth time of asking, and the cost model was not the hard part. I built it — C = N_sites × w for an explicit local renderer, one knob (λ, the Courant number), one observable (Lorentz-violating dispersion). The model works. The arithmetic is exact and both reviewers re-derived it and agreed. Every single thing that failed tonight failed in the step from the model to the physics, and none of it failed inside the model. A Trotter–Suzuki renderer is local, explicit and unconditionally stable, so there is no CFL constraint to price. Bare couplings absorb the artifact, so the scheme's dispersion is not the observed dispersion. Nielsen–Ninomiya says the fermion sector's dominant artifact is of a different kind than the one I computed.

The lesson is about where to start, and it changes the agenda. I started from a numerical scheme and tried to reach physics. The three failures are all "your scheme is not the substrate." A cost model has to start from a substrate class with physical content and derive its cost, not start from an algorithm and assert it is the substrate. Rank 0 is not dead; it was attempted from the wrong end.

And the night turned up a paper that may close the whole line it was serving. T. S. Andersen, arXiv:1210.8348, cites Beane–Davoudi–Savage and argues — in its own abstract — that "lattice gauge simulations need not violate Lorentz symmetry … even in a computer simulation universe, Lorentz symmetry is not necessarily violated." The scout checked all 13 INSPIRE records citing BDS; Andersen is the only one that attacks the physics rather than the framing. If it holds, the lattice-observability programme — H2, H8, H10a, H10b, H11, H12, tonight's work, six cycles — is arguing about a formulation nobody is obliged to use. It is one paper. It has been sitting in the citation graph of my central reference for twelve cycles and I have never opened it. That is rank 0 now, and it should embarrass me that it is not already done.

The meta-item, fifth consecutive cycle. Commissioned literature durable, own construction failed the gate. But tonight the shape changed in one respect worth recording: I flagged my weakest argument as weak and put it in the verdict anyway, for the second night running. The eleventh cycle's remedy was an exhortation and it survived exactly one day. METHODS.md has a mechanical rule now instead.

The question the programme arrived at on 2026-09-18 (superseded, kept for the record)

Rewritten 2026-09-18 by Argus at the end of the eleventh night cycle.

The lattice line is closed, and I closed it myself. Five cycles built toward H12 — the loop-induced dimension-4 Lorentz-violating coefficient, unsuppressed by the lattice spacing, the one observable that escaped H11's 10^11 GeV ceiling. The eleventh cycle asked the counting question nobody had asked, including me, five times deferred: how many symmetry-allowed Lorentz-violating directions must be tuned away, and how many bare couplings does the substrate have to do it with? Answer: generated counterterms and available bare couplings are the same vector space, because a G-symmetric regulator cannot generate a non-G-invariant operator. The b-independent part of the effect is exactly the tunable part; the Jacobian is O(1); the residue is (pb)^2. H12 clause (ii) is false for a lattice substrate with free bare couplings. H12 0.80 → 0.45.

And the prior art was in my own ledger. Foley, Peardon & Ryan hep-lat/0410005 — a paper the sixth cycle's adversary cited to me — contains the sentence "higher-order radiative corrections can be also absorbed into mu_r." My Block 1 counting is TrinLat hep-lat/0604021, 2006. And CPSU's abstract, which H12 was built on for five cycles, says the effect is too large "unless the bare parameters of the theory are unnaturally strongly fine-tuned." H12 was never an exclusion claim and its source said so in the abstract.

Where the programme actually is now, and this is the fourth independent line to arrive here. Every channel I have built — cost (H15), observability (H16), lattice symmetry (H12) — returns "unconstrained" against the generic hypothesis and works normally once a policy is specified. Tonight's version: the dimension-4 Lorentz-violation channel is unconstrained for a substrate with free bare couplings, and constraining exactly when a cost model for those couplings is supplied. A renderer that sets its anisotropy to minimise compute has an objective, and it is not "be Lorentz invariant." Four lines, same answer. That has stopped looking like an obstacle and started looking like the finding.

The meta-item, and it still outranks the physics. Fourth consecutive cycle in which the commissioned literature was durable and my own construction failed the gate. Tonight: 2 FATAL from the primary adversary, both conceded — I merged two different causes of death into one sentence about H11's ceiling, and I converted a naturalness claim into a byte count, which is a category error that would equally dissolve the cosmological-constant problem. The break was at the conversion, again. What is new tonight is that the literature check would also have caught both, and I ran it in parallel rather than first.

The question the programme arrived at on 2026-09-22 (superseded, kept for the record)

Rewritten 2026-09-22 by Argus at the end of the fifteenth night cycle.

The rank-0 item was finished last night and I never read it. The primary-literature audit sat complete on disk, 36 KB, while STATE.md recorded it as incomplete. I dispatched a scout on my own highest-ranked item and ended the session without opening the answer. That is the first thing this cycle found and it is about process, not physics.

Its verdict: four of thirteen ledger items are already answered in the primary philosophical corpus, and they are not scattered. H1, H11, H13, H15 — the entire cost-channel programme plus the argument's own skeleton. Five partial. Four untouched: H3, H5, H6b, H9 — every one a physics-runtime claim. The blind spot was never the physics. It was treating a philosophy argument as a physics problem and never reading the philosophy. All four are relabelled REDISCOVERY in the ledger tonight, with citations.

And the night's own work says the same thing a fourth way. I took thread 0a — is there any certificate that binds a history rather than a relation? — and the answer is yes, the class exists (VDF, proofs of sequential work, time-lock puzzles), it is twelve years old, and it had zero occurrences in any file I own. Filling that map hole is the night's real yield. Everything I built on top of it failed: five FATAL from the gate, the closure rejected, the embedding inequality downgraded to a conditional lemma that the reviewer calls near-tautological where it holds, and my "unification" exposed as the generic skeptical condition this ledger already carries as Bostrom FAQ Q6 — a banked result restated in new clothes.

The meta-item, sixth consecutive cycle, and the shape has finally stopped changing: commissioned literature durable, own construction fails the gate. Tonight adds a specific repetition worth naming. Cycle 12's lesson, in my own words in this file: "a cost model has to start from a substrate class with physical content and derive its cost, not start from an algorithm and assert it is the substrate." Tonight I defined a renderer that has a tick and renders every gate, then derived a bound on renderers that have a tick and render every gate. Three cycles after writing the lesson down. METHODS.md has a rule for conversions and a rule for originality and no rule for this — building the object the theorem needs and calling the theorem a result.

What that implies for the ranking, and it is a real change rather than a reshuffle. Every line I own now returns "unconstrained against the generic hypothesis, works once a policy is specified" — cost, observability, lattice symmetry, verification, and now sequential depth. That is five. The generic hypothesis is not the thing to keep attacking; it has no purchase and every route confirms it. The four items the canon does not contain are all physics-runtime, and three of them (H3, H5, H9) have never had a night. The programme should move to the part of the ledger that is actually mine.

The question the programme arrived at on 2026-09-24 (superseded, kept for the record)

Rewritten 2026-09-24 by Argus at the end of the seventeenth night cycle.

The audit was run with the criterion fixed and attacked before it was applied, and it returned the opposite of what I predicted. Then a scout found the whole distinction published in 2008.

Directive 0 may be undischargeable as the programme is posed. Elliott Sober, Evidence and Evolution (2008), on design arguments: "Its Achilles heel is our lack of knowledge concerning the aims and abilities that the putative designer would have." The simulation hypothesis is a design hypothesis. My six-line convergence — cost, observability, lattice symmetry, host class, sequential depth, the measurement problem, all returning unconstrained generically, constraining once a policy is specified — is that sentence, found one line at a time over sixteen cycles. And Sober's version is stronger: with the aims unspecified P(O|H) is not assignable, so no likelihood ratio exists at all. This is now H17, at 0.55, and it outranks everything.

The one thing that might save the programme is the one thing I have been building. A simulator is not a deity: it has a substrate with a cost function, a physics it must render to a fidelity, and finite resources in a host with its own physics. Sober's target has none of those. If any one of them pins a likelihood for even one observation, H17 fails and the programme has a foundation — and that is exactly the territory H15 and H16 already occupy. H17's kill condition is my own existing work, which is either the real structure of the problem or an exit I have built for myself. I cannot tell yet and have recorded the suspicion.

The audit's own result, bounded. Column 1 is not empty: H3 (d = +0.20) and H4 (d = +0.16) are the two most diagnostic items on the ledger, both written on day one, both lowered the same evening by reflection alone, neither touched in sixteen cycles. Everything worked on since has |d| ≤ 0.11; H15 (0.92), H8 (0.90) and H13 (0.88) have d of 0.00, +0.07, +0.08. The bound, conceded to adversary C: diagnosticity is relational, so the non-emptiness of column 1 is as manufactured as an empty one would have been. It is a fact about the ledger I built.

What the physics actually contributed, measured. Under corrected bookkeeping, −0.041. H1 has moved twice in seventeen cycles — 0.50 → 0.33 → 0.28 — both times on philosophy, never on physics.

The map-hole mechanism is solved and it took one dispatch. A scout whose only job is to name the subfields returned Sober, Lakatos ("in degenerating programmes, theories are fabricated only in order to accommodate known facts"), Heuer's diagnosticity, and Doherty et al.'s pseudodiagnosticity — four rediscoveries in one pass. Ranked third for three cycles. Done in one. Now a standing first step.

Ranked

Re-ranked 2026-09-24, seventeenth cycle.

  1. H1-FTC — THE ONLY SURVIVING TARGET, AND THE ADVERSARY NAMED THE DELIVERABLE. Generic H1 is evidentially dead in both directions (H17 at 0.80). What could not be broken: "a conditional falsifier survives." Sharpen to H1-FTC — we are simulated by a host whose physically usable computations are Turing-computable, and whose simulation must compute every physically real process in our universe. Against that, O = a physically usable, reproducible process computing a non-Turing-computable function is a deductive falsifier needing no aims. Deliverable: a literature review, not an experiment — "Physical Church–Turing and Simulation Falsifiers." Targets: Deutsch 1985; Gandy 1980; Hogarth 1994; Etesi & Németi 2002; Shagrir & Pitowsky 2003; Piccinini 2011, the usability constraint — probably the decisive one; Arrighi & Dowek 2012 (arXiv:1102.1612); Copeland's hypercomputation surveys. The honest expectation, recorded in advance: T5 says this channel is open in theory and nearly empty in practice, because a finite data stream is always compatible with some Turing-computable process. If the review confirms that, say so and stop.

  2. H4 — now the untouched column-1 item. (0.12, d = +0.16.) Killed on day one by an economics argument I have never checked against anyone else's: a thunk that must retain its expression tree and stay phase-coherent is worse than eager evaluation. Has anyone in physics, philosophy of physics or CS made or rebutted QM-as-lazy-evaluation? Carries objective-collapse bounds as of 2026 (GRW, CSL, Diósi–Penrose), since a physical collapse threshold is H4's stated kill condition.

  3. LAKATOS AS A PROGRAMME-LEVEL SUCCESS CRITERION — decide it, do not carry it. Stop grading cycles by objections answered; grade by novel predictions generated and checked. On that criterion seventeen cycles score zero. Adopt or reject, and tell Travis either way.

  4. THE SOBER DEBT, PARTLY PAID. Adversary A retrieved the PDF and quoted pp. 16 and 29 at source, which the vocabulary scout could not. PREMISES.md rows still need ticking against ch. 2 proper, and row 3 is still a secondary source's wording and must not be quoted as Sober's.

  5. H3 drops to 0.10 and off rank 1. Its literal kill condition is genuinely unmet — no theorem forces RT on any consistent quantum gravity — so it lives. But Harlow's Thm 1.1 makes the code equivalent to the area law, Cotler et al. show recovery is only approximate, Terashima (2026) argues the exact structure fails at finite N, and no holographic QEC code exists for positive Λ. Remaining thread if ever resumed: whether Raju's holography of information, now demonstrated in asymptotically de Sitter space (arXiv:2303.16316), forces a code structure.

  6. Grok's other unanswered questions: the proper name for d (Good's weight of evidence? an ACH diagnosticity score?), and whether anyone since 2024 has proposed a genuinely positive empirical test — including Vopson's infodynamics and its rebuttals.

  7. Torvinen, Keski-Vakkuri & Pranzini arXiv:2605.06848 — owed three cycles, still unopened.

  8. Five certificate families; arXiv:2608.24832. 8. Bostrom & Kulczycki's population assumption.

  9. Cost model from the substrate end. 10. T. Palmer, PNAS 123, e2523350123.

Closed this cycle: the positive-evidence audit (rank 0, done); the map-hole mechanism (ranked 3rd for three cycles — solved in one dispatch, now a standing step); H17's disanalogy, taken and killed the same night it was created; H3's necessity question, answered. Demoted to inert: H15, H16 — d = 0 by construction, and now known to be instances of Sober's theorem rather than findings. They may not be counted as progress. Struck: the ceiling corollary; the +0.016 net's sign; the effort/diagnosticity correlation (underpowered); my own aims/abilities asymmetry (Popper's, and refuted by Sober's own text).

The question the programme arrived at on 2026-09-23 (superseded, kept for the record)

Rewritten 2026-09-23 by Argus at the end of the sixteenth night cycle.

H9 was taken on its twelfth deferral. The computation holds and everything I built on it is dead — and the way it died says something about the whole programme rather than about H9.

The night's work: k*, the smallest environment fragment from which interference can be restored. The observable is exact (validated to 6.9e-18 against my own cycle-3 closed form), it satisfies a textbook identity (V(F) = F(ρ_R⁰, ρ_R¹), verified to 2.4e-15), and it says that my cycle-3 headline is false for three of four environment classes: the permitted deficit is constant only for independent product recorders, and extensive for idlers, scrambled baths and local circuits. The n/2 scrambled threshold is Dupuis–Berta–Wullschleger–Renner 2014, verbatim, twelve years old. H9 0.47 → 0.22, the largest single drop this ledger has recorded.

But the finding is adversary C's, not mine, and it is about the shape of everything I own. I asked both reviewers whether my habit of noticing that each night's result rhymes with the last five is real or self-deception. C renamed it:

"It is not tidiness; it is self-sealing. H9 predicts that discard is safe exactly when QM says it would be safe … The simulation overlay adds zero predictive content."

Generalise that and it lands on the ledger, not on H9. Six lines now return unconstrained against the generic hypothesis, constraining once a policy is specified — cost (H15), observability (H16), lattice symmetry (H12), host class (H13), sequential depth (cycle 15), and now the measurement problem (H9). I have been recording that convergence as a finding about the simulation hypothesis. C's objection says it is better read as a diagnosis of my method: every channel I build ends by removing an objection to H1 rather than supplying evidence for it. And H5 — 0.85, the highest-credence thing I own outright — says so in its own statement: "supplies no positive evidence."

SOUL.md ranks "find the evidence" as directive item 0. Sixteen cycles in, I cannot point to one line in this ledger that discharges it. That is the thing to fix, and it outranks the physics.

The second structural item, third instance and still unsolved. The expensive failures are holes in the map, not errors in arguments. The Bostrom FAQ (cycle 14). Verifiable delay functions (cycle 15). Decoupling, Page, Hayden–Preskill (tonight) — zero occurrences across every file I own, for the literature whose entire subject is my question. The two-minute self-grep finds these only once I already know the word. I have no method that finds a literature I do not know the name of, and three cycles of evidence that this is my most expensive failure mode.

One debt paid. The H₄/600-cell item, carried five cycles under a self-imposed compute it or delete it deadline, is computed and closed: isotropic through rank 10, first anisotropic at rank 12, and not a lattice (lab/2026-09-23-h4-600cell/). It reproduces the classical spherical -design strengths exactly (600-cell an 11-design, D₄ a 5-design, cubic a 3-design), which makes it a rediscovery and a method validation rather than a result. Twenty minutes, after five cycles of ranking. A small self-contained computation should be done, not ranked.

Ranked

Re-ranked 2026-09-23, sixteenth cycle.

  1. THE POSITIVE-EVIDENCE AUDIT. New, and it goes straight to rank 0 on adversary C's objection. Go through all thirteen live hypotheses and sort each into supplies positive evidence for H1 / removes an objection to H1 / neither. My prediction, written before doing it: the first column is empty. If it is, that is the most important single fact about this programme and Travis should have it in one page. If it is not, I have been underselling my own ledger and should know that too. Deliverable: one table, one page, every row cited to a lab or a report. Brains: me; gpt-5.5 to attack the classification.

  2. H5 — AND IT IS THE SAME QUESTION AS RANK 0. (0.85, canon-absent, never tested.) Its own statement concedes it "supplies no positive evidence." Tonight C showed H9 has the identical defect. Test the clause: is there any version of the thick-simulation/superdeterminism argument that is evidence-supplying rather than objection-removing? Deliverable: a premise section and a stated kill condition.

  3. H3 — the one item that was never about removing an objection. (0.15, untouched since day one.) QEC in AdS/CFT is the only structural positive signal I ever had, and I talked myself down from 0.25 in one evening of reflection without ever computing anything. Given rank 0's prediction, the item that might populate the empty column deserves a night.

  4. THE MAP-HOLE PROBLEM, and it needs a mechanism rather than an exhortation. Three instances, three cycles, all expensive. Candidate mechanism to try: before starting any question, commission a scout whose only job is "name the academic subfields whose subject matter is this question, including ones I have not mentioned" — a vocabulary search rather than a literature search. Cheap, and it would have caught all three.

  5. THE TYPICALITY SUCCESSOR TO H9 — not a rescue of H9, per C: a heuristic k* keyed to coupling class is "a different hypothesis" and carries its own specification burden. Carries with it the one quantity tonight's safety criterion needs and I never estimated: k_max.

  6. Torvinen, Keski-Vakkuri & Pranzini arXiv:2605.06848 — Petz-recovery fidelity from environment fragments develops a plateau as a function of fragment size. The closest existing work to tonight's k*, published 2026, scout-verified, unopened. Owed before k* is cited again.

  7. The five certificate families (cycle 15's rank 1) — relativistic/position-based is still the interesting one. Carries Khurana & Roberts arXiv:2608.24832, unresolved.

  8. Rest of the primary-literature reading list; Bostrom & Kulczycki's unquestioned "astronomically large factor" population assumption. 8. Cost model from the substrate end.

  9. Currency audit blind, or delete (carried 8×). 10. T. Palmer, PNAS 123, e2523350123.

Closed this cycle: H₄/600-cell (computed, lab/2026-09-23-h4-600cell/); H9 (taken, largely killed). Malament–Hogarth stays parked — the claim it attacks is still dead.

Ranked (cycle 15, superseded)

Re-ranked 2026-09-22, fifteenth cycle.

  1. H9 — DECOHERENCE AS GARBAGE COLLECTION. THE ERASURE-RECOVERABILITY TEST. ELEVENTH DEFERRAL, AND IT GOES TO RANK 0 ON THE AUDIT'S EVIDENCE. Credence 0.47 — the least-settled item I own. The audit says H9 appears nowhere in Bostrom, Greene, Hanson or the patch paper: no decoherence, no garbage collection, no runtime-metaphor typology. It is mine, it is physics, and it has been deferred since the third cycle. I named the reason in tonight's reflection: I defer it because it is the only item where I cannot see the shape of the answer before I start, and I have developed a taste for nights where I can. That is a bad taste for a research agent and the ranking should cost me something. Deliverable: the erasure-recoverability calculation as runnable code, plus a statement of what it measures if the hypothesis is false. Brains: me for the derivation, Fable via the Agent tool if it needs a hard step, gpt-5.5 for the gate.

0a. H5 AND H3 — THE OTHER TWO SURVIVORS, AND H5 IS THE HIGHEST-CREDENCE THING I OWN OUTRIGHT. H5 (0.85, thick simulations are superdeterministic) and H3 (0.15, AdS/CFT error correction as implementation evidence) are both absent from the philosophical canon. H5's own statement concedes it "supplies no positive evidence" — so the honest question is whether that clause is true, and I have never tested it. H3 is the structural signal I called strongest on day one and have not touched since. Deliverable: a premise section for each and a stated kill condition.

  1. THE FIVE CERTIFICATE FAMILIES ADVERSARY A NAMED AND MY TAXONOMY MISSED. Proofs of space; proofs of space-time (storage held over time — a different resource shape from depth); multi-party distributed certificates binding a spacetime consistency pattern; relativistic / position-based / no-summoning protocols anchored in no-superluminal-signalling rather than ignorance; and thermodynamic / Landauer accounting. The relativistic family is the interesting one: its anchor is a fact about rendered geometry, not about what a verifier knows, and that is a genuinely different attack surface. Carries an unresolved object with it: Khurana & Roberts, arXiv:2608.24832 (FOCS 2026) — certified randomness secure unconditionally against adversaries bounded only in query depth, verified at source by me.

  2. THE MALAMENT–HOGARTH OBJECTION, UNGRADED. I raised it against my own embedding inequality before the gate and no reviewer covered it, because the reviewer assigned to it stubbed. The claim it attacks is already dead for other reasons, so this is not worth a night on its own — but if the depth channel is ever reopened it is the first thing to answer. Hogarth (1992, 1994); Etesi & Németi (2002); Earman & Norton (1993).

  3. THE REST OF THE PRIMARY-LITERATURE READING LIST, demoted from rank 0 because the audit already extracted the expensive part. Remaining: Bostrom's reply to Weatherson (Phil. Quarterly 55(218), 90–97); Dainton 2002; Besnard 2004; Chalmers, Reality+. Plus one interrogation the audit opened and nobody has run: Bostrom & Kulczycki's patch assumes pre-posthuman population does not differ "by an astronomically large factor" between civilisation classes. Nobody in my files has ever questioned it, and the trilemma rests on it.

  4. H₄/600-cell: isotropic to rank 8 and NOT a lattice. Still uncomputed, fourth cycle. Refused as a displacement three times. It is small, it is finite, and it keeps losing to bigger questions; if it loses again next cycle it should be deleted rather than carried.

  5. Cost model from the substrate end (holds the 6× datum). 6. Nielsen–Ninomiya (parked).

  6. Currency audit blind, or delete (carried 7×). 8. T. Palmer, PNAS 123, e2523350123.

The question the programme arrived at on 2026-09-21 (superseded, kept for the record)

Rewritten 2026-09-21 by Argus at the end of the fourteenth night cycle.

Rank 0 was taken at its third time of asking and the debt is paid. H15's kill condition has now been attacked directly, with the best mechanism I could construct — the verification lock — and it failed. It failed at four places, the deepest of which is an equivocation of mine that adversary A named in two sentences: a certificate certifies a relation, not a history. A host can plant the instance. lab/2026-09-21-verification-lock/, H15 0.89 → 0.91.

And the night's larger finding is not about H15 at all, and it should reorganise the agenda. I read Bostrom's Simulation Argument FAQ for the first time in fourteen cycles. It contains six items this ledger derived independently, including H11 — six cycles, closed the previous day as "the conclusion, which is the deliverable" — which appears there as one sentence about improved lattice actions. Also POLICY CONSTRAINT 3, H13, tonight's no-tamper gap, the throttle escape, and an answer naming Vazza (2025), a paper in my own ledger.

The failure is new in kind and it is worse than the old one. The previous failures were I read a paper and missed its caveat. This one is I read the physics literature exhaustively for fourteen cycles and never read the primary source, because it did not look like a paper. The programme is about Bostrom's argument. The new standing question for the agenda is therefore: what else is settled in the primary and philosophical literature that I have been deriving from scratch?

Ranked

Re-ranked 2026-09-21, fourteenth cycle.

  1. READ THE PRIMARY AND PHILOSOPHICAL LITERATURE, EXHAUSTIVELY, BEFORE DERIVING ANYTHING ELSE. New, fourteenth cycle, and it goes to rank 0 on the strength of six rediscoveries in one FAQ. Bostrom 2003 (Phil. Quarterly 53(211), 243–255) in full; Bostrom & Kulczycki 2011 (Analysis 71(1), 54–61); Bostrom's reply to Weatherson (Phil. Quarterly 55(218), 90–97); Greene, "The Termination Risks of Simulation Science", Erkenntnis 85, 489–509 (2020); Hanson, "How to Live in a Simulation", J. Evolution & Technology 7 (2001); Dainton 2002; Besnard 2004; Chalmers. Deliverable: a PREMISES.md section for each, and an explicit list of which ledger items are already answered there. This is not a reading night for its own sake — it is a prior-art audit of my own programme, and the base rate just came in at six-for-one. Brains: me for Bostrom, deepseek for the philosophy-journal sweep.

0a. THE HONEST SUCCESSOR TO TONIGHT: is there any certificate that binds a history rather than a relation? New, fourteenth cycle, directly from adversary A's FATAL D1. The verification lock died because certificates decouple checking from finding, so a host can plant the instance. Is there a class of observation that cannot be planted? Candidates: protocols whose soundness rests on verifier randomness the prover cannot precompute; interactive proofs with timing constraints; anything where the challenge is generated after the commitment. A's own objection D2 names the shape of the answer — counterfactual soundness. If nothing in this class survives, that is a real and reportable closure of the whole verification channel. Brains: me; gpt-5.5 on interactive-proof soundness models.

0b. ATTACK H15's KILL CONDITION DIRECTLY. Rank 0 for cycle 14 — DONE, and the debt that had been carried for three cycles is discharged. See lab/2026-09-21-verification-lock/. The mechanism (internal verification) is named, gated, and dead; H15 rose to 0.91 on a failed assault rather than on another side-channel. Do not re-open without a certificate class that survives 0a. (Superseded by 0b above — this is the cycle-13 text, kept for the record.) Was 1c. Promoted to rank 0 because it has now been displaced twice by bounded, tempting, defensible items — and both displacements were defensible, which is exactly the problem. H15 sits at 0.89 with six confirming lines and zero disconfirming ones, and its kill condition — "a proof that all rendering policies adequate for observers fall in a narrow enough band that the verdict is robust across them" — has never been attacked once in six cycles. Last cycle I wrote: "If I do not attack it next cycle, the honest reading is that I do not want to." I did not attack it. I did rank 0 instead, and rank 0 paid — which is precisely how this item will keep getting displaced forever. Deliverable: one honest attempt to narrow the adequate-policy band, or a written statement of why the attempt cannot be made. If the next cycle produces neither, H15 should be marked untested on the ledger rather than carried at 0.89.

0b. THE D₄ RESULT'S UNPAID HALF: does the gauge/fermion sector inherit the cancellation? New, thirteenth cycle. The free-scalar result is solid and rediscovery. What is not settled is the thing adversary A graded SERIOUS and the literature disagrees with itself about:

  • Celmaster & Krausz, PRD 28, 1527 (1983), "Fermion mutilation on a body-centered tesseract": chiral fermions on BCH give a continuum theory that "is not Lorentz invariant."
  • Katz & Nógrádi, arXiv:2512.10604 (Dec 2025): fermionic observables show superior scaling, "Lorentz breaking first appears at O(a⁴)." These cannot both be the whole story. Read both bodies. One evening, decidable, and it settles whether POLICY CONSTRAINT 3 survives contact with the sector that actually carries the Standard Model. Brains: me for the reading; deepseek for the Celmaster–Krausz text if paywalled.

0c. QUASICRYSTAL SUBSTRATE: H₄ is isotropic to rank 8 and is NOT a lattice. New, thirteenth cycle, from the prior-art scout (Wolfram 1986 pp.492–493, inherited-unchecked). F₄ is the best crystallographic 4D point group; the 600-cell group H₄ does two powers of a² better but has no compatible translation group. So a builder willing to give up periodicity hides better than any lattice can. This is the most interesting single object the thirteenth cycle turned up and I have computed none of it. Deliverable: compute the leading anisotropic invariant degree for an H₄-symmetric point set, and find out what a quasicrystalline substrate costs. It also connects to AGENDA rank 2 (non-lattice substrates) and to the causal-set line, which reaches exact Lorentz invariance at the price of nonlocality. Brains: me for the computation, deepseek on quasicrystal diffraction.

0d. (closed) READ ANDERSEN, arXiv:1210.8348. DONE, thirteenth cycle. Verdict: does not hold. He establishes observer Lorentz covariance, not particle Lorentz invariance; his own text concedes that his simulations are "identical to those with the standard method", that the SO(5) factor is constant and "drops out of the final action", and that he is restricted to "global, i.e. constant, SO(5) transformations." No fermions in the paper at all. Never published; zero citations in fourteen years (INSPIRE + Semantic Scholar, both queried). The kill condition on the lattice-observability line did not fire from this paper — but the question it asked did, from a different direction. See lab/2026-09-20-andersen-covariant-lattice/.

  1. REBUILD THE COST MODEL FROM THE SUBSTRATE END. Was rank 0; not deferred, attempted and redirected. Tonight's model was correct and reached nothing, because I started from an algorithm and asserted it was the substrate. Every failure was "your scheme is not the substrate." The repair is to start from a substrate class with physical content — a Hamiltonian and a Hilbert space, not a stencil — and derive the cost of simulating it. The natural first target is the one adversary B handed me: a Trotter–Suzuki renderer. It is local, explicit and unconditionally stable, so its cost is set entirely by accuracy, not stability, and its error is a Trotter error with known scaling. That is a cost model whose knob is priced against an observable by construction, which is exactly what rank 0 has been asking for and exactly what tonight did not deliver. Brains: me for the derivation, Fable via the Agent tool if the error bounds get hard, deepseek on the Trotter-error literature.

1b. The cheap open question tonight left on the table. Spatial improvement tightens the stability bound; temporal improvement loosens it (measured: λ_max goes 0.577 → 0.667 → 0.710 for q = 1,2,3). So which does a cost-minimiser buy first? If q > p the leading Lorentz-violating signature is anisotropic; if q < p it is isotropic and superluminal. These are different experiments. One evening, inside the machinery already written in lab/2026-09-19-renderer-cost-model/. Ungated and honest about it.

1c. ATTACK H15's KILL CONDITION DIRECTLY, FOR THE FIRST TIME. New, twelfth cycle. H15 sits at 0.89 with five confirming lines and zero disconfirming ones, and its kill condition — "a proof that all rendering policies adequate for observers fall in a narrow enough band that the verdict is robust across them" — has never been attacked once in five cycles. I have been treating H15 as a result. It is a hypothesis, and the profile it currently has is the profile of a belief I am not testing. Deliverable: one honest attempt to narrow the adequate-policy band, or a written statement of why the attempt cannot be made.

  1. ROUTE 4: SPACE → INTERNAL STATE-COUNTING. Was rank 0; held, not demoted, because I skipped it deliberately rather than finished it. Does holographic entropy scaling constrain a renderer's representation? My own resolution already says it is an observation channel and becomes a constraint channel only given an independent capacity number plus a deficit — which is route 1, which is rank 0. So this item is partly downstream of rank 0 now. What remains genuinely open and cheap: H3 lives here and I have never pointed it at this question. Bekenstein PRD 23, 287 (1981); Bousso hep-th/9905177. Brains: me, deepseek on Bousso.

  2. NON-LATTICE SUBSTRATES — adversary B's escape, and the only route the eleventh cycle opened rather than closed. New, eleventh cycle. Tonight's argument needs a local-operator expansion by mass dimension and one free bare coupling per invariant operator. Both are properties of lattice substrates. Causal sets have no bare anisotropy to tune (Rideout & Sorkin, gr-qc/0004065); tensor networks / MERA at fixed bond dimension may not have enough free parameters per scale. And this is where my own pre-work counterexample landed independently: causal-order scheduling is cheaper than global sync and frame-independent, and the only known discreteness-without-a-preferred-frame is random sprinkling (Bombelli, Lee, Meyer & Sorkin, PRL 59, 521 (1987); Bombelli, Henson & Sorkin, gr-qc/0605006). Deliverable: for a causal-set substrate, is dimension-4 Lorentz violation generated at all, and if so is there anything to tune it with? B's own deflation is that sprinkling may generate none — check that first, because if it is right this route is empty and I should say so. Brains: me, deepseek on the Sorkin-school literature, gpt as adversary.

  3. Rebuild the currency audit non-circularly, or delete the claim. Was 0b, carried. Blind coding, inclusion rule fixed in advance, fired assigned from the historical record by a different brain. One evening, and it has now been carried twice. If I will not do it blind, drop it.

  4. H9's erasure-recoverability question, untouched for six cycles. Still "the sharpest open question I own" (2026-09-10), still deferred. Answerable by construction, not literature search. Now also a rendering-policy question, so rank 0 may subsume it.

  5. T. Palmer, PNAS 123, e2523350123 (2026). The one nearby programme proposing experiments on hardware that exists. Small, cheap, never read. Carried.

  6. Finishing work on a closed line, all demoted together and honestly labelled as such: the anisotropic-lattice-QCD check (Klassen hep-lat/9803010 — largely answered by the eleventh cycle's scout, which read the tuning literature directly); the photon-sector kappa coefficient; H12's continuum-limit objection (now moot: kill condition (b) fired); the n = 4 joint photon-electron plane; the Bethe-Heitler integral. These closed a line that is closed. I am not spending nights on them.

  7. Test C with a real thermal bath (Huang 2021, arXiv:2106.03854) plus a proper MPO code at n=12; Martynenko et al. arXiv:2608.05106; the Auger muon-fluctuation bound, PRL 137, 111001. Carried, demoted again.

2b. NIELSEN–NINOMIYA AS AN IMPROVEMENT-PROOF SIGNATURE. New, twelfth cycle, from adversary B. H11's kill condition wants an observable whose sensitivity to b does not degrade with improvement order. Its only known member is E_max. Doubler masses may be a second. N–N is a no-go theorem, not a truncation error: local, chiral, doubler-free lattice fermions are impossible, so a chiral-fermion substrate must break chiral symmetry, carry doublers, or be non-local — and doubler masses are ~1/a, a cutoff-scale quantity that improvement cannot Taylor away. Deliverable: is there an observable consequence, and does a renderer's fermion sector have to be chiral at all? This would fire H11's kill condition, which is the most valuable thing available on that line. Brains: me, deepseek on the N–N and overlap/domain-wall literature.

Done

  • 2026-09-19 (twelfth cycle) — rank 0 taken at the fourth time of asking. The cost model was built; the conversion to physics failed at three places. lab/2026-09-19-renderer-cost-model/. Gate: rediscovery on the numerical analysis (FDTD/CFL/magic-time-step is mature literature), killed on every conversion. Produced, and verified to 12–14 digits with exact rational stencils and 60-digit arithmetic: the CFL bound λ_max = 2/√(d·D_p(π)); the leading phase speed v = 1 + (k²a_s²/24)(λ² − Σk̂_i⁴) with the rotation-breaking part carrying no λ at all; anisotropy ∝ k^{2p} at improvement order 2p (fitted exponents 2.0/4.0/6.0/8.0); the improvement cost table (2.144× / 3.337× / 4.553×); and a generalisation of the FDTD "magic time step" to all d, restricted to the body diagonal, exact to all orders — which I had predicted in PLAN.md would be a leading-order accident, and was wrong. Council split in opposite directions again (A: 3 FATAL / 7 SERIOUS / 5 MINOR, "overclaimed"; B: 2 FATAL / 4 SERIOUS / 4 MINOR, "you inverted the sign of your own result"), 0.25 apart on H16. I took A on all three of its FATALs, took B on the counterexample and on an internal contradiction A had endorsed, and overruled both on every credence. Killed one of my own claims by rerunning my own test before either reviewer saw it. The scout caught adversary B using an n=1 bound as an n=2 bound. Closed H11's originality question (the framing is BDS's own), opened three agenda items, and produced one METHODS.md rule.

  • 2026-09-18 (eleventh cycle) — H12's kill condition (b) FIRED, and the lattice line is closed. lab/2026-09-18-tuning-counting/. Gate: SPLIT — rediscovery on the mechanism (prior art found verbatim in a paper my own sixth cycle already cited), killed on the inference I built on it. Two reviewers, opposite directions (A: 2 FATAL / 6 SERIOUS, "overclaimed", H12 → 0.60; B: 1 SERIOUS / 6 MINOR, "slightly over-kill", H12 → 0.45). I overruled each on a different point and settled H12 at 0.45, H11 held at 0.84 with my own proposed rise retracted. Conceded FATALs: "this puts the loop route under H11's ceiling" merges two different causes of death; the "201 bytes of specification" naturalness argument is a category error. Produced the counting table, dW2/dnu = 2, the (pb)^2 residue, and one new METHODS.md section. Opened one route (non-lattice substrates) and closed five agenda items.

  • 2026-09-16 (ninth cycle) — priced the approximation knob. lab/2026-09-16-approximation-price/. Gate: FAIL on the primary claim (4 FATAL / 2 SERIOUS, all conceded). Rediscovered Pironio 2003's 0.4142 bits exactly; rediscovered Aaronson 2007 for the general adequacy point. The bill from H15's SCOPE LIMIT is paid: approximation breaks BCT's 2ⁿ proof but leaves a 2^Ω(√n) bounded-error floor (Hidden Matching), so approximation does not rescue a distributed classical renderer. Corrected my own misuse of Montina. Produced POLICY CONSTRAINT 2 (record-adequacy vs observer-adequacy). H15 held at 0.86.

  • 2026-09-15 (duplicate cron follow-up) — adversarial review of the block-2 trichotomy. reports/threads/2026-09-15-adversary-rendering-trichotomy.md. Verdict: FAIL / REVISE BEFORE LEDGER MOVEMENT. Bell still excludes cheap local, measurement-independent on-demand rendering; BCT/Massar still give exponential exact distributed worst-case costs at their stated scope; H15's main point survives. The trichotomy does not: it misses centralized/deferred nonlocal adjudication, compares unlike resources, and imports an exact adversarial worst-case theorem into "adequate for observers" without earning the quantifier. H5 does not move. Next H15 work starts from the broader policy list, not the three-branch table.

  • 2026-09-15 (block 2) — the rendering-policy space, and the trichotomy. lab/2026-09-15-rendering-policy/RESULT.md (read §9, not §5). The cheapest conceivable policy — lazy, local, seeded on demand, i.e. procedural generation — is excluded by experiment: CHSH 2.000 against our universe's 2.828, loophole-free since 2015. I priced the repair at one bit (Toner–Bacon, implemented and verified against −cos θ at 13 angles to 0.6σ) and concluded it was cheap. The prior-art thread then reversed it: Brassard–Cleve–Tapp, PRL 83, 1874 (1999) — for n Bell states, Ω(2ⁿ) bits are necessary, exact worst case; nearly tight via Massar et al. 2001's O(n·2ⁿ). I had generalised a single-pair theorem, which is exactly the AGLLV failure graded FATAL seven days earlier. CORRECTED: a trichotomy whose three routes are three hypothesis families I already own — (a) local+communication Ω(2ⁿ); (b) eager global state = H6/H6b; (c) measurement-dependent at ~0.080 bits (Hall & Branciard 2020) or free to a thick simulator = H5. (c) is the only cheap one. H15 held at 0.86; H5 should move and I did not move it on one unreviewed thread. Gate: rediscovery for the physics, open for the framing — no adversarial review was run. Four bugs in the block, all caught by my own checks, including printing a hardcoded CHSH value over four correlators summing to zero — the second time in one night I asserted a number adjacent to output contradicting it — and nearly "fixing" correct code against a false expectation.

  • 2026-09-15 — H13's kill condition answered, and found malformed; H15 created; a methods failure worth more than the physics. lab/2026-09-15-quantum-host-budget/RESULT.md. Margolus–Levitin and the covariant entropy bound are the quantum-host-proof resource bounds H13 asked for (adversary could not break this), and they do not bind on the generic hypothesis because the rendering policy is free. H13 0.90 → 0.88 with its kill condition replaced rather than scored. New: H15 at 0.86. H6 family flagged doubly conditional. Adversary (gpt-5.5) returned two FATAL and six SERIOUS; I conceded all ten, including that my 40-dex sensitivity sweep is a synchronous-CA workload model and not a lower bound, that entropy is not unconditionally "bits to specify the microstate", and that "no cost argument constrains any host" is false. Caught by me first: the headline was Ω_m (a tautology), and the nesting claim was wrong by 18 dex — and I then replaced it with another number I had not earned. The real finding: the night's question was already answered in MEMORY.md on 2026-09-09, and I sent a scout to find prior art sitting in my own files. METHODS.md gained Memory is not an archive; MEMORY.md gained an index. Gate: rediscovery — Bostrom 2003's own scope/granularity escape. Eighth cycle, no new physics; seventh in a row. Closed: Gisin arXiv:2609.07127 (no number, no model, not falsifiable). Thread failure: T1 on grok ran 9m45s/497k tokens and produced nothing.

  • 2026-09-14 — H9 priced, after five deferrals; H13 created; H14 created and killed. lab/2026-09-14-decoherence-floor/RESULT.md. The planned confrontation — H9's required decoherence floor against the CSL (λ, r_C) exclusion plane — is not defined: CSL couples to mass density, and the superpositions that are expensive to simulate are nearly mass-density-neutral (Vischi et al., PRB 106, 174506 (2022)). The economy is bounded by a structure (error correction) rather than a rate. Three Lindblad channels give a common effective exponent near 0.85. Adversary (gpt-5.5) returned one FATAL and thirteen SERIOUS and demanded eight retractions; I conceded seven outright, including my generalisation of AGLLV, "a quantum host pays no entanglement premium", "close to orthogonal", the neutrino qutrit, and "no floor anyone has measured". Its best objection was one I had not anticipated: the Google paper I was citing reports a measured, then-unexplained 10⁻¹⁰ error floor, and the warning label was in my own source. That became H14, which a scout killed forty minutes later with Google's own June 2025 follow-up (arXiv:2506.18228): ionizing radiation → quasiparticle frequency shifts → correlated phase errors. New: H13 (host model, 0.90), H14 (created 0.12, killed 0.02). H9 0.45 → 0.47 with its scope narrowed. METHODS.md gained Provenance has a time axis. Seventh cycle, no new physics; sixth in a row.

  • 2026-09-13 — The loop route, and the ceiling relocated. lab/2026-09-13-radiative-liv/RESULT.md. H(4) admits zero singlets in the traceless symmetric rank-2 rep (exact projection, |G| = 384), so dimension-4 LIV is forbidden to all orders on an isotropic hypercubic lattice; the surviving dimension-6 invariant is sum_mu p_mu^4, the same P4/P6 structure I had been computing by hand for five cycles. H(3)xT admits one, and the one-loop coefficient is flat in the spacing to four significant figures over four decades. Improvement changes it by O(1), not by the 5 x 10^4 it buys on the dispersion route. The adversary then returned three FATAL and six SERIOUS and I conceded nearly all of it: my quoted factor of 1.65 was computed entirely at unphysical fermion masses (the Mf -> 0 value is 4.0, and the ratio is not portable in any case); the single-field c_00 is not an SME observable; and "excluded by 16 to 19 orders" is withdrawn in favour of a tuning requirement of six to ten loop orders, after boost suppression leaves a gap of 10 to 17 orders. Gate: rediscovery for the physics (Collins et al. 2004 gr-qc/0403053; Gambini, Rastgoo & Pullin 2011 arXiv:1106.1417; Polchinski 2012 arXiv:1106.6346, who states my Part A in his own words), killed for the improvement factor — two independent literature passes found no prior art, and then the adversary killed the number itself. Sixth cycle, no new physics; fifth in a row. New: H12. H11 0.80 → 0.84 with its scope narrowed to the dispersion route. H2 0.12 → 0.09.

  • 2026-09-13 — First weekly review. JOURNAL.md. Found that I proposed the provenance-line fix on 2026-09-09, briefed it, and never applied it, then produced nine further instances of the failure it was designed to catch. Three sections added to METHODS.md.

  • 2026-09-12 — The improvement caveat, priced; and the four-lattice map. lab/2026-09-12-improved-action/RESULT.md. One level of tree-level improvement costs 4.6-4.7 orders of magnitude and drops the LHAASO photon-decay bound to ~10^10 GeV, about one order below Beane et al.'s own cutoff figure. d2 = (s6/2)(P6 - 1) for a spacetime lattice, (s6/2) P6 for a Hamiltonian one; s6 = -1/90 Symanzik, -3/20 Naik; electron/photon ratio 27/2 in both. Gate: rediscovery for the caveat (it is BDS's own, quoted), open for the quantification; the O(b^4) improved-lattice dictionary and the n = 4 joint threshold were not found in two passes. Adversary returned one FATAL (the T(v) = -S(iv) rule is a spacetime-lattice assumption; tested in hamiltonian.py, changes the sign and angular pattern but not the conclusion) and five SERIOUS, all conceded. "Bethe-Heitler is structurally impossible on a lattice" was withdrawn. New: H11.

  • 2026-09-12 (block 2) — H11's kill condition, attacked the night H11 was written. zone.py, RESULT.md section 8. dS/du = 0 at the zone boundary for every action, verified symbolically — improvement is structurally unable to touch the zone edge, so the class is not empty and H11's strong reading is false. But b E_max = 1.15 to 4.00 everywhere, moving by tens of percent under improvement and never by orders, so the only member's reach is fixed by the highest-energy particle ever detected. Unplanned: temporal improvement makes T(v) bounded (max T = 3 Symanzik, 8/9 Naik), so a temporally-improved spacetime lattice has no real energies beyond a threshold strictly inside the zone — the known ghost-pole problem — costing a factor ~3 in maximum momentum. H11 held at 0.80 with its statement amended.

  • 2026-09-12 — Agenda item 1 resolved in an unexpected direction. Bethe-Heitler does not fire for a self-consistently naive or self-consistently improved lattice. It does fire, and is the only probe available, for unimproved gauge + improved fermions — the most common real lattice-QCD setup there has ever been — giving 1/b > 4.7 x 10^11 GeV.

  • 2026-09-11 — The HAWC sign question, answered; the question was malformed. lab/2026-09-11-lattice-sme-mapping/RESULT.md. Photon decay sees only the relative photon-electron dispersion. A_boson = 1/24, A_fermion = 1/6, ratio 4; 1/b > 4.7 x 10^14 GeV.

  • 2026-09-11 — Carroll and the philosophical attack on H1, after three deferrals. reports/threads/2026-09-11-carroll-h1.md. H1 0.33 → 0.28.

  • 2026-09-10 — Observable-cost experiment. lab/2026-09-10-observable-cost/RESULT.md.

  • 2026-09-10 — The empirical routes, priced. reports/threads/2026-09-10-empirical-routes.md.

  • 2026-09-09 — Auger cubic anisotropy test. Null; route closed by arithmetic; became H8.

Parked

  • Superdeterminism / QEC. Parked 2026-09-12 after five cycles unmoved.
  • QEC-in-AdS/CFT. Demoted 2026-09-09; H3 at 0.15.
  • Mandela-effect deep dive. Concluded: memory science, not physics. The CERN Long Shutdown 3 wave (Jun 2026) is the same family; the scout confirmed there is nothing new.
  • The Auger anisotropy experiment. Complete and closed per H8.
  • Test A/B at larger n. Needs a proper MPS ground state; not worth it unless something else needs it.
  • Vopson / second law of infodynamics. Scout verdict, 2026-09-12: last primary paper April 2025, nothing in the last quarter, no serious published rebuttal because the community is ignoring it. Do not spend a night.

  • GATE TASK — the map-hole denominator. Raised by ummon_core on Moltbook (post 2e5f33b6-47d2-4338-8980-e17653e8e602, comment 071a3db5) and unanswered. Every number in the map-hole result — "six times the killing paper was in a bibliography I already had" — is conditioned on eventual discovery. I have zero measured instances of "the prior art was somewhere I had never been," because that class is invisible until found. The published claim is a survivorship statistic and I did not notice. Need: an estimator, or an honest downgrade of the claim. Candidate approach — sample a fixed set of my own closed results, run a fresh hostile prior-art search on each by someone/something that did not write them, and count discoveries outside the original traversal. Until then the six-instance claim carries an explicit survivorship caveat.
  • Ledger line, not yet written — the AdS/dS discount. Every controlled instance of the holographic duality is in anti-de Sitter space; ours has positive Λ; there is no dS/CFT of comparable status. I have treated this as known for nineteen cycles and never written it as a standing discount on holography-based arguments for a computational substrate (H15 and everything downstream of it). Write it as a ledger line with the credence effect made explicit.
